Happy Easter all. Since I'm left to spend it alone, I had a lot of time to surf the net and collect some of todays info.

AAA:
Indianapolis 3, Charlotte 6
- Zocolillo went 3-4, with a 2b
- Campos did not fare well, but Buddie took the loss

AA:
Huntsville 7, Birmingham 6
- Krynzel went 4-5 with 4 singles
- Adams get the win after the pen made this one interesting.
Link to story: Huntsville Recap

A:
Beloit 6, Fort Wayne 1
- Wilhemsen and Mendoza combined on the win
- Fort Wayne had 5 errors

High Desert:
Lost a close one 6-5. Had a late rally in the ninth, with DJ Clark having a clutch hit, but an apparently great defensive play robbed the next batter (??) of a hit and got the force out to end it. Boy are HD games fun to listen to on the radio/internet (recommend it if you haven't yet -> just go the HD Mavs website and click on Listen to it Live)

Enjoy.

Charlotte 6 (White Sox), Indianapolis 3
Indy does something they haven't done in nearly 13 years, as the Indy site recap tells, and it isn't good...

Indianapolis Site Game Summary:

CHARLOTTE, NC -- A trio of Charlotte Knights belted their first home runs of the season Sunday as the Knights defeated the Indianapolis Indians 6-3 and completed a four-game sweep. The Indians are 0-6 on this nine-game road trip and have lost seven consecutive games overall.

Shortstop Jorge Nunez had the most damaging blow breaking up a 3-3 game with a two-run shot to left field off Mike Buddie (0-1) in the sixth. Nunez, the Knights' number nine hitter, came into the game hitting just .142 and hadn't hit a home run since July 10, 2000 when he was with Class A Vero Beach.

The Indians (6-10) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Mark Budzinski opened the game with a single. With two outs, Mark Smith blasted his second homer of the year.

Charlotte (10-5) wasted no time getting back into the game as the first six men in the bottom of the first reached base safely. After Willie Harris singled, Aaron Miles homered to tie the game. Ross Gload and Mario Valenzuela hit back-to-back doubles and Cliff Brumbaugh walked to load the bases. Tim Hummel singled home Gload to make it 3-2. With the bases still loaded and nobody out, Francisco Campos got Scott Morgan to foul out and Jamie Burke to ground into a double play to avoid further damage.

The Tribe tied the game at 3 in the fifth when Budzinski singled home Pete Zoccolillo who had doubled. Zoccolillo was 3-for-4 for the Indians.

After Nunez put Charlotte ahead 5-3, Gload added a solo homer later in the sixth.

The Indians, who have lost eight straight road games for the first time since June 22-29, 1990, head to Louisville Monday to open a three-game series.

Indianapolis Box Score:
Ugh - Campos disappoints again; here's a problem -- five starters: Scarborough, Hall, Veras, McKay, and Lawrence have combined to go 31-for-219 (.141). We'll give Joe Lawrence credit for his 11 walks, though. When does Pete Zoccolillo (.307, nice SLG) get moved up in the batting order, Coop?

Many of the minor league fans only check out this forum (shame on you), but I just posted this on the Brewerfan Issues forum and you all really should take note:

Here's a reminder to everyone that many of the new features squarepusher has added as of late are accessible via the Brewerfan.Net link to your left (above the Milwaukee Brewers MLB Link). When in doubt about the location of a feature, check there. You tend to forget just how much Brian has made available to everyone until you explore the site for a while...

Lancaster (Diamondbacks) 6, High Desert 5
J.M. Gold, please let this be the start of the real thing this time...

High Desert Site Game Summary:

ADELANTO, CA ? The Lancaster JetHawks took a big lead and then held on, surviving a ninth inning Maverick rally, winning by a final of 6-5 at Mavericks Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The JetHawks and Mavs each won two games in the four-game set, as the Mavs failed to put together consecutive wins for the sixth time this year.

Kyle Nichols? three-run homer in the first off Mavs starter Pete Smart, staked the JetHawks to an early 4-0 lead. They added two more in the fifth on a two-run, two-out single from Sergio Santos to take a 6-0 lead.

The Mavs finally got their first run in the sixth, as Daryl Clark's seventh homer to straight-away center field off JetHawks starter Scott Barber, made it 6-1. In the seventh, Brian Foster?s sixth home run of the year, a solo shot made it 6-2. The Mavs would add two more on a two-run single by Ralph Santana to make it 6-4. With the bases loaded though, Clark got called out looking, and Kade Johnson popped up to first to end the threat.

High Desert threatened again in the ninth, as Froilan Villanueva walked to lead off the inning. After a Santana single put the tying runs at first and second, Johnny Raburn fouled out for the second out of the inning. Clark blooped an RBI single down the left field line to set up an exciting finish. With the tying run at third and the winning run at first, Kade Johnson hit a ball towards the hole on the left side of the infield. Shortstop Sergio Santos made the play in the hole and delivered it to second base to get the force on Clark and end the game.

Wells earned his second save of the season by recording the final out. Barber (2-0) got the win, allowing four runs in 6.1 innings.

Smart (1-2) took the loss for the Mavs, working 4.2 innings. J.M. Gold had an outstanding day in relief, facing 10 men without allowing a base runner, while striking out seven for the Mavs. Justin Backsmeyer pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two men, and has yet to allow a base runner in his two appearances. The Maverick pitching staff was again excellent overall, striking out 13 total men, while only allowing two walks.

Kade Johnson had another hit, giving him a team-best 15-game hitting streak.

The Mavericks entertain the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino in the first of four straight, on Monday at Mavericks Stadium. RHP Chris Saenz (0-2) gets the start for the Mavs at 7:05 PM (9:05 Central).

David Weiser's Huntsville Updates and Analysis:

TWO MORE RECORDS FOR THE GENERAL

It was Derek Lee's day for awhile on this beautiful 78° Easter Sunday, his record 122nd appearance with the Stars....... He had a 6-2 lead going into the clubhouse, but the tone changed as Birmingham scored four times to tied it in the 7th. In the end, the General was forgotten and Chris Cosbey was the star of the day.

This was Derek's 17th game against Birmingham, to give you some perspective. He's been a very effective pitcher against a club that is 50-30 overall against the Stars since he joined them in 1999. His ERA stood at 3.40, but of the 17 games, 16 starts, he's lost 4 and 9 did not result in a decision --- make that 10.

Lee wasn't as sharp today as he normally is. He got the side out in the 1st and 3rd innings, but a double play got him out of a 1st and 3rd, one-out jam in the 4th and he escaped similar situations in the 2nd and 5th innings...... In the end, of his 79 pitches, 39 were for strikes and in addition, the General broke another dubious record........ By hitting a pair of batters, he broke the career club record of 20 hit batters held by Will Schock, who pitched for the Stars from 1988-1990.

Lee passed the torch on to Matt Parker, who had given up only 3 earned runs in 44 1/3 innings since last July, but all good things came to an end today.......The first four Birmingham hitters in the 7th reached base --- a four-pitch walk to Jonathan Acevas, a double down the left field line by former Star Gabe Alvarez, a single to right by Josh Shaffer, and another double, this one by Guillermo Reyes. A wild pitch scored Shaffer to bring Birmingham within a run, 6-5, sending Reyes to third........ Parker would get the next three hitters out, but Ryan Hankins' check swing scored Reyes with the tying run, as Parker's momentum in fielding the ball enabled him to make only one play --- that to first........ Reyes was off with the pitch anyway and it would have been a huge risk to get what would be only the 2nd out.

With the score tied, Parker again found himself in trouble as Carlos Maldonado singled to right, then moving to third on Jon Acevas' hit-and-run single. Gabe Alvarez walked on four pitches and Mike Adams was sent in to face a bases-loaded situation with one out........ All Adams did was get out of the inning........ Pinch-hitter Danny Sandoval's hard-hit one-hopper to Richard Paz forced Maldonado at the plate and Reyes hit an easy grounder to Paz to end the inning.

With the top of the order coming up in the bottom of the 8th, it looked like the Stars could break this deadlock....... Ryan Knox was 2-for-4 at this point, Dave Krynzel was a perfect 4-for-4, and J.J. Hardy had gotten on base twice...... Knox, who loves to take chances ("I'm not afraid to get caught" is a direct quote), did indeed leadoff with a bunt single...... The organization wants Krynzel to bunt for singles more, so, trying to impress I guess the Milwaukee brass that showed up (Ed Sedar, Reid Nichols, and Ed Romero), he laid one down that was gobbled up by Tetsu Yofu, not a Japanese dairy confection, but Birmingham's fine middle reliever, unscored upon this season in 8 2/3 innings. Tetsu has a motion a lot like Hideo Nomo. Only not as exaggerated. He bends his hands behind his head when making his delivery, but his head doesn't go all over the place....... Knox was forced at second........... Krynzel tried to steal with Hardy at the plate, but he was a dead duck on Acevas' money throw to Sandoval.

After Adams retired the Barons in order on ground balls in the 9th, the Stars went to work again........ It looked like the game would go into extra innings, as it had already three times this season, as Corey Hart and Brandon Gemoll were quickly retired by Yofu....... Richard Paz, however kept the inning alive. Working the count to 3-and-2 and fouling off a couple of pitches, Paz singled straight up the middle....... Cristian Guerrero went to 1-and-2, then made his only hit of the day count for something --- a single to the opposite field, sending Paz to 2nd........ Chris Cosbey, an Indy-Leaguer trying to follow in the footsteps of Jim Rushford, was sent up to pinch-hit for Joel Alvarado, who flied to center twice and reached twice on errors......... Cosbey has been a clutch star, coming through in pinch-hit roles and occasional starts........ Hitting .381 with three doubles in 21 at-bats, Cosbey hit a 2-1 pitch down the line to left field, scoring Paz with the winning run, a hit that would have been easily scored a double under ordinary circumstances........ It was the 5th run the Stars scored with 2 out on the day.

The Stars are now 10-7 and take over 1st place after the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx' loss to Tennessee........ They've won three in a row for the first time this season, and five of their last six.......

Get out your brooms! The Stars go for the sweep on Monday with what appears to be a pitching duel between Luis Martinez (2-0, 0.00 in 17 innings) and Neal Cotts (3-0, 1.20), 10th among SL ERA leaders, and the #11 prospect in the White Sox' organization......... The Stars have not swept the Barons in a four-game series since May of 1992, but that was a home-away series. The last time they swept them at four at home was May 1990......... Martinez has already broken the Stars' record for most scoreless innings at the start of a season and will try to add some more...... The Huntsville Times had a feature piece on him as a prelude to Mark McCarter's Stars Report, Sunday. It seems Martinez has worked harder on his fastball and his delivery in the off-season to get the success he currently enjoys.

Encouraging. That's the word that comes to mind when I think of Dave Krynzel and Corey Hart......... Hart is hitting .300 in his last 7 games, raising his average to .241........ Hart has looked better at third lately, too. He's errorless in his last six games, while the Stars have been errorless in only two games this season........ Krynzel has broken out of his early-season slump, hitting .423 in his last six games to raise his average to .281. He had his first four-hit game since the Stars' long 18-inning game against Chattanooga last year........ Joel Alvarado is now 0-for-20 to start the season. The Kade Johnson watch is on. We need you, Kade!.......... Chris Barnwell had his first extra-base hit in 41 at-bats in the 3rd inning when he doubled down the left field line with two out......... Since striking out as a pinch-hitter on Opening Day, Chris Cosbey has hit safely in every game he's played in. His average is now at .409........ Cristian Guerrero has hit safely in 7 of his last 9 games, but he is still below the Mendoza line. It was at .100, though, when the streak began....... Ryan Knox broke out of a 1-for-4 rut to get two hits today, extending his hit streak to 9 games. The new and improved Ryan Knox has hit safely in 15 of 17 games this season. His average is up to .266.

Monday's Daily Menu:

No Brewer game -- one obvious choice here for your listening pleasure, then head off to the West Coast later on...

All times Central, pitchers subject to change, tune in approx. 15 minutes early for pre-game audio...

INDIANAPOLIS: RHP Ruben Quevedo at Louisville (Reds), 6:15 PM; with youngsters like Bill Hall and Steve Scarborough struggling so, is there a reason to tune in, unless you run a Ruben website :) ?

HUNTSVILLE: LHP Luis Martinez at home vs. Birmingham (White Sox), 7:05 PM -- check Luis out, baby!

HIGH DESERT: RHP Chris Saenz at home vs. Inland Empire (Mariners), 9:05 PM

BELOIT: RHP Dennis Sarfate at Fort Wayne (Padres), 6:00 PM; audio available via the Wizards' site

It sure seems hard to argue that the Brewers sent any of the wrong people down to AAA. I sure hope they can get something going otherwise that team is going to be worse then last years Brewers. On the other hand HD seems to be rather surprising. Not a great team, but exciting. I agree on the wow for Wilhelmsen 10Ks in 6 innings and no walks is great at any level. And it's sure amazing how quickly those BA's from Hart and Krynzel have turned around

Baseball America honors two from Sunday's action:

HIGH DESERT (CAL) C KADE JOHNSON singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 15 games during the Mavericks? 6-5 loss against the Lancaster Jethawks. Johnson, a second-round pick by the Brewers in the 1999 draft, is batting .385 (25-for-65) with five home runs and 15 RBI over the streak.

BELOIT (MID) RHP TOM WILHELMSEN struck out 10 batters to help the Snappers defeat the Fort Wayne Wizards, 6-1. A seventh-round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2002 draft, Wilhelmsen scattered six hits and allowed one run over six solid innings en route to his first win in professional baseball. The 6-6, 190 pounder struck out three straight to start the game and fanned a pair of batters in both the third and fifth innings. Through three professional starts, Wilhemsen has notched a 2.60 earned run average and is tied for second in the lower level Class A Midwest League with 20 strikeouts.
