Pitching Matchup

Randy Wolf

8-8, 3.61

The lefty's five earned runs allowed were the most he's given up in nearly a month, but he came away with a win Wednesday against the Cards. Wolf also gave up a home run for the first time since July 18 and struggled during his six-inning outing.

Jake Westbrook

9-5, 4.83

Westbrook's overall trend line looks good -- a 3.83 ERA since the start of July. But he's walked three batters in each of his past two starts, after walking two or fewer in seven of his previous eight.

Lineup: Hart 9 Morgan 8 Braun 7 Fielder 3 McGehee 5 Betancourt 6 Hairston 4 Kottaras 2 Wolf 1.

I was going to say we could have a thread free of lineup complaints tonight, but I know we'll get at least three comments about the Wolf-Lucroy dynamic.

Well, this was the game out of the 3 that I circled as a "we really should win this one" ... hopefully a couple of our bats stay hot and we can take the series the easy way and go for a crushing blow tomorrow.

BTW, did anyone else catch the two Brewer fans in the crowd yesterday with the "Just here to check on the lights" sign? I could have hugged them...

This guy definitely has a good head on his shoulders in writing a mildly complimentary piece on the Crew at the expense of the "grumpy but proper" Cardinals. The level of baseball saturation in the SL Post-Dispatch is pretty impressive.

A couple of the best bits:

...irreverent youngsters who dared to mock baseball's most stuffy unwritten rules...

They don't need to yank out their shirt tails anymore to get on the nerves of the cantankerous old-school Cards...

He rubbed his hand on his scruffy beard and let out a soft chuckle just at the very thought of a three-game sweep.
>>> I will be doing this all afternoon, btw

Did anyone else in baseball care about the untucking thing. It's amazing how much that's stuck here. Anybody else been reading the post's other columnist this week. He really is trying to stir the pot with his word choices, more than any other writer I;ve ever seen. Even took a whole segment on his radio show to talk about how no Brewers shoed up at some off-day charity event Albert hosted, and how there's always someone there from visiting teams.

That was great! Thanks for sharing. Go get 'em Crew!

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

I wish we didn't have 3 lefties in the lineup today, RHB are killing Westbrook this season (.326/.373/.491). That being said, the only lefty I would replace is Kottaras....too bad Wolf hates Lucroy.

I don't mind Kottaras starting, as Lucroy needs a day off every now and again. It's somewhat annoying that it has to come only with Wolf. Righties are killing Westbrook, so Kottaras starting tomorrow would have been ideal. Or seeing how we just had 2 days off last week, Lucroy could just play. But we know that won't fly. Otherwise I like it a lot. Hairston finally gets to play!!

In one possible scenario, he has perhaps the largest (true talent) reverse platoon split ever. In another, it's a fluky small sample. Career splits:

One year splits = EVIL. Good time to give Kottaras a start.

Sounds like we're going to catch a break with no Holliday tonight after he 'tweaked' something in his back.

That is a HUGE break. He seems to be on base all the time.

I felt like we needed one in this series and that two would be great. I am a greedy man and would like to get number 2 right here

Here's hoping Holliday doesn't pull a Willis Reed.

I wonder if Tony will blame the Brewers for Holiday being out

yeah, its because we pitched him inside, so he though he should work on keeping his hands in and pulling the ball quicker...so he tweaked an oblique. brewers fault

Yeah we have to take advantage of that lineup now. I am confident we will get runs off of Westbrook but Wolf just scares me (Really for no logical reason)
