Ross Ohlendorf

1-3, 8.29

Ohlendorf has one last chance to impress before the Pirates decide whether to tender him a contract. To this point, his argument has not been strong. Ohlendorf has lasted just two innings in two of his previous three starts.

In a road loss, Wolf was knocked around for six runs on 10 hits in his last start. Wolf had been 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in his previous three September starts. He won his only previous start against the Pirates this year, going 6 2/3 scoreless innings.

Glad to see the Brewers aren't trotting out a spring training lineup tonight.

You sure? I see Casey McGehee is at third base with Hairston in CF.

Hairston at 3b, Morgan in CF. It's pretty simple here Ron.

Casey has to get every chance to prove himself. He could still turn around that September sub-.500 OPS, you know...

Not really sure if that should be in blue or not.

At the risk of making a bad former-Brewer pun, I hope Randy is ready tonight. 1-0 for Tuesday, Brewers. "Al Davis said it best - just win, baby, win."

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Morgan's out today and tomorrow with a bruised shin, so Hairston>Gomez. McGehee at 3rd sucks though. Not sure McGehee>Gomez.

Thanks, I was wondering about that.

I'd rather have Schaffer in CF and Hairston at 3B. Give Hairston some reps.

I'm waiting for McGehee to have two bloop singles or something tonight and RRR to declare him 'hot', and then play him every inning of every game in the playoffs.

We don't know what RR is going to do in the playoffs until it happens. With homefield still on the line these games are as good as any for continuing evaluation of options under a bit of pressure. Just reading between the lines and observing some of the things he's done in the last few days leads me to believe that he will be more flexible than most here are willing to believe. Of course, given the roster, flexibility will have its limits. But it seems clear to me the RR understands that there is a significant difference between playoff baseball and the grind of 162.

Homefield ceratinly makes a difference, and the Brewers are certainly trying to win these games, but I don't blame RR at all for not turning these games into something bigger than they are. They aren't elimination games, and there is no point turning them into virtual elimination games. Doing so sends the implicit message that the Brewers can't win in October if they don't win today and tomorrow. It's just simply not the case. I'd much rather have a team that is loose, confident and having multiple players ready to contribute in their roles than one that has been overmanaged and overburdened with pressure that need not be borne.

I'm not sure if I want McGehee to go 4-4 with 4 homeruns or 0-4 with 4 strikeouts....I think the latter will probably be better for the Brewers in the postseason (assumption: Mcgehee's day is not the difference between playing the Phillies and the Braves) because it'll reinforce RR's position of 3rd base by committee going forward.

You are right. I would hate for the manager to do something to make the team tense like starting Braun in LF or playing the best players he has. Constantly running out sub-par guys like YunE and McGehee sets the right message.

Fan is short for fanatic.
I blame Wang.

Besides some walks, Weeks has looked like crap since he's come back.

This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

I really wish BA would stop talking about how well McGehee did last year. It's fine at the beginning of the season, but at this point it's literally a full year ago.

I also really wish Rickie wouldn't strand so many baserunners.
