All-Star week is always the longest week of the baseball season. Glad it's over. Time for a big second-half run to start. I predict that the rest of July is going to be a really exciting time to be a Brewer fan. A few of the guys having down years offensively were showing signs of breaking out going into the break, and the starting pitching has been solid. Grab a couple solid pen arms, and this team is ready to play with anyone.

Why not? Do you dislike men on in front of Yelich?

I have no problem with Grandal leading off. He actually gets on base.

I definitely would not hit Moose before Grandal in your lineup. Why stack two lefties together when you can R/L and Grandal is better obp?

I think this is a big series for the Brewers. By any objective measure that factors in the teams hey played, the Brewers have stunk things up for the last six weeks or so.

Hopefully they will come out of the break and pick up some series wins. They have four of the next five series at home and then the schedule gets a lot tougher.

It's worth noting the Brewers really caught some favorable pitching match ups for the first two series after the break.

FRI: Shaun Anderson, a rookie who has struggled in his first ten starts, only lasting more than 5 innings four out of the six starts.

SAT: Bumgarner: 4.60 ERA, 1.34 WHIP on the road this year, 1.72 HR/9

SUN: Tyler Beede: has gotten beat around to the tune of a 5.64 era with a 1.5:1 walk to strike out ratio.

MON:Max Fried is probably the best pitcher they'll face coming out of the break, but he can be had.

TUE: Bryse Wilson is making his 4th major league start and has given up 10 earned runs in 14 innings of work.

The opponents get some favorable matchups the next four games too.

No Woodruff and the Brewers have had trouble scoring against just about everyone.

Probably better to ignore the pessimists than try to argue.

Fair point, I just don't understand being so pessimistic(not just directed at any one poster or person). I'd so much rather hope for the best and have it not work out than constantly have a "welp we suck and nothing will ever work out" and then be pleasantly surprised when it does work out. What's the point in even being a fan of a team if you're constantly dunking on them and expecting the worst?

To each their own I guess, I personally prefer the positive approach.

It is possible to have hope while paying attention to what is happening.

And one thing that has been happening is the Brewers losing a lot of games started by mediocre opposing pitchers. Part of the reason for that is that the Brewers throw mediocre pitchers out there themselves more often than not.

When I think of favorable pitching matchups I think of one team having a clearly better starting pitcher than the opponent. I don’t see that in any of the next 4 games.

I don’t see how Anderson vs Anderson is a favorable matchup when their records are so similar.

Or how Bumgarner vs Davies is a favorable matchup in light of how Davies has pitched lately and how the Brewers typically do against lefties.

Or how Chacín vs anyone is a favorable matchup given how Chacín has pitched this season.

Lefty Fried vs Hauser, who has not done well as a starter, is not a favorable pitching matchup.

The Brewers should be able to win a home series against the last place Giants, but I thought that against the Marlins and Mariners too. It’s time for the Brewers to give some cause for optimism other than blind hope.

Grandal has not really been successful at getting on base in front of Yelich. As a leadoff hitter his OBP is .333 (16/48) but since 3 of his hits have been HRs they don’t give Yelich anyone to drive in. His effective OBP in terms of putting someone on base for Yelich is just 13/48, or .271. Even a slumping Cain gets on base in front of Yelich as often than that. Since June 1 Cain’s OBP has been .310 with just one HR.

I’d rather have Grandal batting behind Yelich where he might be able to drive Yelich in and leave Cain (who rarely homers) in front of Yelich.

The sky doesn’t fall when they brewers go 72-90 either. I know because it’s happened before

in essence the brewers being bad or good has nothing to do if the world implodes. So we can throw that out as a relevant harbringer of future brewers performance

We will just have to keep going by actual play

A quick 6 pitch first inning. I'm impressed.

Soak it in, boys. You won't see it again until next season.

"You're not going to have him when you want him and you're going to run out of games. He can't pitch 90 games. It's just not going to work. If anyone thinks it's going to work, show me how."- Craig Counsell on Josh Hader.
