Going back to his last at-bat Tuesday, Juan Francisco reached base ten consecutive times, 11 times out of 12. Linked page on his name will include Thursday's stats when updated mid-day Friday. While this stretch is ridiculously hot, Francisco has been fantastic in 17 games thus far.

Would love to hear what Francisco's Dominican Winter League Manager, the Brewers' Mike Guerrero, is reporting to the brass right now. Can we hope the changes in Francisco's elimination of leg lift and his overall approach have allowed him to turn a real corner?

We can't completely write off Francisco's efforts here. Otherwise we should have ignored Jean Segura's DWL batting title last winter.

Juan Francisco singles on a sharp ground ball to first baseman Dan Black.
Juan Francisco walks.
Juan Francisco singles on a ground ball to right fielder Jim Adduci.
Juan Francisco doubles (7) on a fly ball to left fielder Eugenio Velez.
Juan Francisco hit by pitch. Yamaico Navarro to 2nd.
Juan Francisco walks.
Winston Abreu intentionally walks Juan Francisco.
Juan Francisco singles on a ground ball to right fielder Moises Sierra.
Juan Francisco doubles (8) on a fly ball to center fielder Leury Garcia. Jurickson Profar scores. Yamaico Navarro scores.
Juan Francisco doubles (9) on a fly ball to center fielder Leury Garcia. Tuffy Gosewisch scores. Dee Gordon scores.
Juan Francisco flies out to left fielder Jimmy Paredes.
Pedro Viola intentionally walks Juan Francisco.

***

In Thursday's Dominican box score, Francisco's teammate Sean Halton was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Halton has been among league hitting leaders as well, just currently being overshadowed by Francisco's dominance.

Brewers 2014 big league camp invite C/1B/3B Robinzon Diaz was 0-for-5 in the game with two K's, falling to .211.

Mark Rogers attempts comeback in Caribbean
The former Mt. Ararat standout and Milwaukee Brewer thinks there’s still life in his arm
By Paul Betit, Portland (ME) Press-Herald

Mark Rogers of Orrs Island is in Venezuela trying to get a new lease on his baseball life.

Rogers, a right-handed pitcher who became a minor league free agent in September when he was removed from the Milwaukee Brewers’ 40-man roster, reported last week to the Bravos de Margarita in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

“A lot of teams were interested in Mark, and this was the best situation for him,” said Ivan Hand, an attorney based in Alabama who represents Rogers.

According to Hand, Rogers could make his first start in the winter league next week for the Bravos. “He will throw a couple of bullpens and then he’ll start,” he said.

Rogers, 27, was the fifth overall pick in the 2004 draft out of Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham. In 2012, he went 3-1 with a 3.92 earned run average in seven starts during a two-month stint in the majors with the Brewers.

In this past season, Rogers was expected to compete for a spot in Milwaukee’s starting rotation, but suffered from diminished velocity in spring training that the Brewers attributed to “shoulder instability.” He never made it past Double-A. In his final start for the advanced Class A Brevard County Manatees in the Florida State League on Aug. 29, Rogers’ fastball touched 93 miles per hour.

Rogers’ career has been plagued with shoulder and hand surgeries.

Following Rogers' release at the end of the minor league season, Milwaukee assistant general manager Gord Ash did not rule out re-signing him to a minor-league contract.

“(We) told him to finish his season in Brevard, go home after that and we’ll be in touch,” Ash said.

Hand said a number of major league teams have expressed an interest in Rogers.

“We’re in the process of fielding free-agent offers,” he said. “There’s a lot of interest in him based on (his) 2012 (performance) with the Brewers. He’s healthy now and ready to show what he can do.”

The Bravos play on Isla de Margarita Island, located about 100 miles east of Caracas in the Caribbean.

Via Adam McCalvy --

Gord Ash said that No. 2 prospect Taylor Jungmann was back on track in the Arizona Fall League after missing time with a groin issue. Jungmann surrendered four earned runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings for the Surprise Saguaros on Wednesday, his first appearance in nearly a month, and is scheduled to make one final appearance on Tuesday.

"He was a little rusty [in his return to action]," Ash said, "but was otherwise OK."

Quiet day on the Arizona Fall League front, as Surprise (now 16-9) fell, 6-1 (box score).

Mitch Haniger, batting cleanup and in LF, was the lone Brewer to play, and went 0-for-4.

It does seem like Surprise takes its rare losses more often when fewer Brewers are in the lineup.

It'll be a rematch vs. Mesa Saturday afternoon, this time in Surprise at 1:35 Central (you'll be able to see that box score here).

Dominican Box Score

So how full are those Dominican bullpens? Twenty-three pitchers saw action in a 9-7 15-inning win for Juan Francisco's Licey team. Francisco, batting .347, was 2-for-7 with a walk, and drove in two (two K's). Entering this game, Francisco was 3rd in the league in OPS at 1.070. His teammate Sean Halton was idle Friday, he was 5th in the league in OPS at .948.

Surprise lost 9-4 on Saturday (box score).

Mitch Haniger was 0-for-4 with two K's. His line is now very solid but no longer spectacular at .284/.360/.477 (OPS .837).

The talents of Jason Rogers were wasted on the bench, catcher Adam Weisenburger as well.

Indians' RHP Will Roberts had a rough start, and the Brewers Tyler Cravy came in with runners on 1st and 2nd, none out. One inherited runner scored, then Cravy allowed a run in his follow-up inning.

Mesa Top of the 4th

Tyler Collins doubles (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Tyler Naquin.
Jett Bandy singles on a line drive to left fielder Henry Urrutia. Tyler Collins to 3rd.

With Addison Russell batting, wild pitch by Tyler Cravy, Steven Souza Jr scores. Tyler Collins to 3rd. Throwing error by catcher Jorge Alfaro.
Addison Russell walks.
Brian Goodwin grounds out sharply to first baseman Travis Shaw.

RHP David Goforth wrapped up in a rare non-save situation.

Mesa Top of the 9th

Pitching Change: David Goforth replaces Keone Kela.
Steven Souza Jr grounds out, shortstop Derrik Gibson to first baseman Travis Shaw.
Tyler Collins strikes out swinging.
Jett Bandy grounds out, second baseman Joe Wendle to first baseman Travis Shaw.

You can check out the pitch-by-pitch option in the 4th, 5th, and 9th innings via Gameday for pitch selection and speed details. Goforth topped out at 97 MPH, Cravy 92-93.

As usual, the league is idle on Sunday.

Saturday's Winter League action --

Dominican Box Score

Third baseman Juan Francisco fanned in both his AB's before exiting as his club fell deep behind early.

Robinzon Diaz was the DH for the winners, 1-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt before exiting.

40-man roster RHP Ariel Pena made his first appearance since way back on October 22nd, as he came in for struggling starter Chris Volstad, who just signed a minor league deal with the Angels. Pena's appearance was both brief and ineffective --

Gigantes Bottom of the 3rd

Moises Sierra singles on a ground ball to left fielder Yamaico Navarro.
Marcell Ozuna singles on a line drive to center fielder Dee Gordon. Moises Sierra to 2nd.
Robinzon Diaz out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Chris Volstad to first baseman Chris Marrero. Moises Sierra to 3rd. Marcell Ozuna to 2nd.

Dominican Box Score

All of a sudden, SS Hector Gomez' numbers look reasonable in the still-small sample (.289 - 11-for-38, 3 XBH's, only one BB, nine K's). He was 2-for-3 with a double here.

Sunday's Winter League action --

Dominican Box Score

Big league spring training invite SS Hector Gomez is hot, and his team recognized that, moving him to the #2 spot in the lineup. Gomez, 1-for-4, hit a two-run HR in a four-run 8th inning as his club won 6-1.

***

Dominican Box Score

Robinzon Diaz, DH'ing (hasn't been behind the plate in a while), 1-for-3 with a walk.

***

Dominican Box Score

Juan Francisco was 0-for-2, but did walk twice, that's 12 walks vs. 76 AB's. Francisco's numbers vs. LHP's should be noted at the link there as well -- lots of LHP's in the DWL, apparently, they can't all be specialists. Francisco played third base, and committed his 5th error (throwing).

Wow, Chris Narveson doing his best to draw interest here.

Sophia Minneart enjoyed the game!

***

Venezuelan Box Score

RHP Arcenio Leon already has 13 relief appearances (13.1 innings), he netted a win here.

Caribes Bottom of the 10th

With Jose Castillo batting, wild pitch by Arcenio Leon, Alexi Amarista to 2nd.

Arizona Fall League --

In the third, Mitch Haniger staked Surprise to a 4-1 lead with a grand slam, his fourth home run of the season. After a torrid start with Surprise, the 22-year-old outfielder had slowed of late, hitting just .256 with one homer over his previous nine games. The grand slam was Haniger's only hit Monday. He also walked once and struck out twice.

Haniger leads the league with 23 RBI. We'll get to see Haniger and his Brewers' mates in the AFL Championship Game at 2:10 Central on Saturday via MLB Network.

Box Score

Jason Rogers (.327) with a rare rough day, 0-for-5 with three K's. Catcher Adam Weisenburger (.200) was 1-for-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored (one SB against).

RHP Kevin Shackelford with a nice inning.

Scottsdale Bottom of the 8th

Pitching Change: Kevin Shackelford replaces Tim Berry.
Cory Vaughn called out on strikes.
Alex Dickerson grounds out, second baseman Mookie Betts to first baseman Brett Nicholas.
Kyle Kubitza strikes out swinging.

Jungmann is wild in the 1st inning. Can't get his rhythm. Walked two so far. 1.33 to 1.36 to the plate. Running on him.

LF Jason Rogers lost a ball in the sun. Ruled a base hit, it cost his teammate Jungmann a run.

Sac fly allows second run to score off #Brewers Jungmann after a 3rd walk. More runs were saved by fine play at 3B by #Rangers Ryan Rua.

Jungmann looks more relaxed this inning and is throwing more strikes. Getting secondary pitches over now. 1-2-3 inning.

Jungmann was replaced by #RedSox Keith Couch after throwing his 56th pitch. Left after a walk and single with no outs.

Taylor Jungmann's line today: 2 IP 2H 4R 4ER 4W 2K. ERA now 9.82 for fall.

He looked healthy to me-no doubt about it. Sat 86-88 with his velocity. Has now walked 7 in 7 1/3 IP.

Tuesday's Winter League action --

Puerto Rico Box Score

Nice "hold" by 40-man roster waiver claim Jose De La Torre (Joe Torre's kid, right? - someone else must have posted that when the Brewers claimed him), stranding two inherited runners while getting two outs, including Reds speedster Billy Hamilton --

Santurce Top of the 8th

Austin Wates walks.
Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Jose Morales replaces Christian Vazquez.
Jose Morales grounds out, first baseman Aaron Bates to pitcher Bryce Stowell. Austin Wates to 2nd.
Edwin Maysonet singles on a ground ball to left fielder Edgardo Baez. Austin Wates to 3rd.
Pitching Change: Jose De La Torre replaces Bryce Stowell.
Jack Lopez strikes out swinging.
Billy Hamilton grounds out to first baseman Aaron Bates.

You know, I had made a point in the postseason that Brewer reliever Michael Blazek had a rooting interest in a Cardinals postseason money share, but failed to point out that De La Torre (seven MLB games for Boston in 2013) should do very well for himself, even with only a partial quarter- or half-share.

***

Dominican Box Score

SS Hector Gomez, elevated to the leadoff spot, 2-for-4 with a double and run scored, caught stealing in his 1st attempt this winter. (Gomez was an awful 6-for-15 in that regard for Huntsville this past season.) Gomez is now at .302 (14-for-46, five XBH's, but only one BB, ten K's).

Teammate Eugenio Velez has been idle a few days now. We can never be quite sure about the comings and goings on these teams, save for the rare tweet, such as Sean Halton's in yesterday's roundup.

***

Dominican Box Score

Robinzon (with a "Z") Diaz may be having the most bland winter season within our reports, 1-for-4 as the DH here, now at .232 after 69 AB's. The Dodgers' second base signing out of Cuba, Alexander Guerrero, had a big game.

***

Dominican Box Score

Cleanup man Juan Francisco, playing third base, was 0-for-3 with two K's, but did walk again (13 vs. 79 AB's). Wow, Jose Contreras still on a mound...

Arizona League Box Score - Wed. afternoon

Surprise was down 7-0 at the 7th inning stretch and nearly rallied to win, but fell 7-6.

No Brewers saw at-bats in this game.

However, RHP's David Goforth and Tyler Cravy did their part to keep the game close late, each tossing a hitless, scoreless inning --

Peoria Top of the 8th

Pitching Change: David Goforth replaces Keone Kela.
Jake Lowery flies out to center fielder Tyler Naquin.
Jonathan Meyer walks.
Patrick Kivlehan flies out to center fielder Tyler Naquin.
Lane Adams strikes out swinging.

Peoria Top of the 9th

Pitching Change: Tyler Cravy replaces David Goforth.
Orlando Calixte strikes out swinging.
Cory Spangenberg strikes out swinging.
Aaron Altherr flies out to left fielder Henry Urrutia.

Here's the Gameday link, you can click on the Pitch-by-Pitch feature to track their pitch selections and speed.

The regular season finale is Thursday at 1:35 Central, you'll find that box score here.

After a day off on Friday, you'll be able to watch the Brewers boys go for the AFL title on MLB Network Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM Central.

Wednesday's Winter League action --

Venezuelan Box Score

RHP Arcenio Leon made his 14th relief appearance a perfect one --

Margarita Top of the 9th

Pitching Change: Arcenio Leon replaces Silvino Bracho.
Breyvic Valera strikes out swinging.
Elias Diaz called out on strikes.
Antoan Richardson called out on strikes.

***

An FYI from Venezuela -- reliever Jesus Sanchez, just outrighted by the Brewers off the 40-man roster and allowed to become a minor league free agent, has been unscored upon in all eight winter appearances, covering 6.1 innings.

***

Puerto Rico Box Score

40-man roster RHP Jose De La Torre pitched on a second consecutive day, with two perfect innings. De La Torre, 28 years old, has two minor league options remaining.

Ponce Bottom of the 9th

Pitching Change: Jose De La Torre replaces Ryan O'Rourke.
Jan Vazquez strikes out swinging.
Jon Garcia strikes out swinging.
Christian Colon grounds out, shortstop Luis Mateo to first baseman Jaime Ortiz.

Ponce Bottom of the 10th

Reymond Fuentes grounds out, second baseman Kristopher Negron to first baseman Jaime Ortiz.
Ivan De Jesus grounds out, shortstop Luis Mateo to first baseman Jaime Ortiz.
Jose Lozada flies out to left fielder Luis Montanez.

***

A curiosity FYI -- Cubs' 40-man roster waiver claim from Boston Daniel Bard (like De La Torre was for Milwaukee) has followed up his wild 2013 regular season (27 walks in 15.1 innings) with four walks thus far in two winter appearances, retiring just one batter. Yikes.

***

Puerto Rico Box Score

Catcher Martin Maldonado made his winter debut, 1-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt and an HBP. Maldonado left for a pinch-runner in the 10th, but it was after his single, not the HBP, which came in the 2nd. Only one baserunner tried to steal on Maldy, and Reds' speedster Billy Hamilton was successful.

Maldonado was pleased with his club's victory.

***

Dominican Box Score

Robinzon Diaz, batting 5th as the DH, was 0-for-4 with one K (.219), "Z" for snooze as of late.

***

Dominican Box Score

SS Hector Gomez (.280) 0-for-4 with a K, take a walk, Hector!

Juan Francisco started at third base, moved to first base late in the game -- he committed his 6th winter error, fielding at third base. Francisco (.313) singled in four trips (one K).

***

Five idle days for Hunter Morris (1-for-11) in Venezuela, last played on the 8th.

Thursday's Fall League Finale Box Score

Reminder: After a day off on Friday, you'll be able to watch the Brewers boys go for the AFL title on MLB Network Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM Central.

As for today, fairly quiet, Mitch Haniger, playing RF, 0-for-4 with two K's; Jason Rogers 1-for-3 with one K, but he did have an outfield assist from LF --

Peoria Bottom of the 2nd

Jonathan Meyer doubles (3) on a line drive to center fielder Tyler Naquin.
Cory Spangenberg walks.
Jorge Bonifacio lines out to left fielder Jason Rogers.
Cameron Perkins doubles (4) on a line drive to left fielder Jason Rogers. Cory Spangenberg scores. Jonathan Meyer out at home, left fielder Jason Rogers to shortstop Tony Wolters to catcher Jorge Alfaro. Cameron Perkins to 3rd on the throw.
Nolan Fontana strikes out swinging.

On the mound, RHP Kevin Shackelford with his 7th scoreless appearance in his last eight outings, ERA down to 3.09:

Peoria Bottom of the 7th

Pitching Change: Kevin Shackelford replaces Jason Gurka.
Cameron Perkins grounds out, shortstop Tony Wolters to first baseman Brett Nicholas.
Nolan Fontana walks.
Chris Taylor singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jason Rogers. Nolan Fontana to 2nd.
Delino DeShields grounds into a double play, shortstop Tony Wolters to second baseman Jonathan Schoop to first baseman Brett Nicholas. Chris Taylor out at 2nd.

Here's the Gameday link, use the pitch-by-pitch option for the 7th inning. Shackelford topped out at 90-91, more concerning is that you just don't see the disparity in MPH in his other offerings, at least on this tracker.

Informative MLB.com article from Adam McCalvy on Jason Rogers' immediate future, and a reminder about next week's deadline for adding players to the 40-man roster.

Reminder -- here's the list of eligible players for 40-man (must be added by November 20th to be protected from the Rule 5 draft). If you wish to discuss that topic, please do so in the linked thread.
