Friday's Winter League action --

Two weeks ago, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy wrote in his Jason Rogers feature article --

"Is Jason Rogers the Brewers' 2013 version of 2012's Josh Prince?

Prince was a fringy but versatile prospect who rode a breakthrough performance in last year's Arizona Fall League to a spot on Milwaukee's 40-man roster. Prince was rewarded in 2013 with a brief appearance in the Major Leagues, though he was removed from the roster last month.

Now comes Rogers, who has hit himself into prospect status with back-to-back solid seasons, including a 2013 spent at Double-A Huntsville that earned Rogers the Brewers' Minor League Player of the Year honor and a spot in the prestigious AFL. Like Prince, Rogers is 25. Like Prince, Rogers is improving his versatility by playing multiple positions in the AFL, a project that will continue at the Brewers' complex in the Dominican Republic following Saturday's AFL Championship Game.

Brewers farm director Reid Nichols said the plan called for Rogers, a first baseman by trade who manned left field in the AFL, to play third base every day for two weeks in the Dominican as part of the team's instructional program there. And if one of the Dominican Winter League teams needs a third baseman, the Brewers would try to get Rogers a shot."

Dominican Box Score

Jason Rogers has landed a job, with the same club that UT Eugenio Velez and SS Hector Gomez appeared earlier in the winter season, with Toros del Este. Rogers started on Friday and batted cleanup, but he played first base, not third (oh well, Brewers management, more chances to come). Rogers was 0-for-4 (one K).

Within that same box score, switch-hitting 40-man utilityman Elian Herrera returned to second base action after an injury scare three days ago, and was 2-for-5 with a triple.

***

Juan Francisco is still idle after a leg strain on Tuesday, but Alec Dopp wrote a nice piece of analysis that may have many of us hoping for a non-tender by the Brewers when the deadline for offering arbitration comes next Monday. (Expect an arbitration offer.)

***

Puerto Rico Box Score

Catcher Martin Maldonado saw no one try to steal on him (again), finished 1-for-3 (a two-run single), and was hit by a pitch for at least the 4th time in ten games this winter. In 459 MLB plate appearances, Maldy had only been HBP five times.

The Brewers are so frustrating with player development. If, at any point, they thought Rogers could handle 3B, why didn't they try him there as a younger player when he'd have tons of playing time to try to learn the position?

BA: Have you ever caught? For half a population, you know what he's going through right now.
Rock: Yep, on a bounce, & uh, gets 'im. That shouldn't happen on 4th of July, should it?
BA: No -- speakin' of liberty bell...

I'm still trying to figure why they think he could be a 3B to begin with? Having watched him play extensively, and as a fan of his, I just don't see it. I understand the need for some kind of legitimate 3B prospect as I do the need for a legitimate LHP, but to continually place square pegs (guys who profile as 1B) as 3B just to fill an organizational need doesn't really make any sense.

I get that Ramirez will hopefully be done as a Brewer after this season, unless of course they pick up the option, but that's why a couple of trades for young pitching and both 3B and SS prospects would have made sense. We have a 1000 outfielders and 1B but not much else, we got the SS and maybe a bullpen arm for Greinke, but as I proposed multiple times over the last 2 years it would have been nice to go after a prospect like Corey Seager from the Dodgers as well and a young pitcher in a separate deal. I don't mean to suggest that Seager was available in 2012 as he was drafted and couldn't have been acquired until this last deadline, I just mean to target a power hitting SS who profiles best as 3B, or a true 3B prospect. I realize the Brewers eventually kind of did that with Nick Delmonico, but that was very light version of what I had in mind initially.

The Rangers wouldn't deal Olt so then you fill the need as best as you can. Oddly the situation turned out the worst possible way for Mike as he got hit in the head playing winter ball (what an incredible waste of time) with a pitch and developed a vision problem which started him off on a horrible year. I hope for his sake he gets his career back on track, but it will suck if he turns into something good for the Cubs.

I still think is pretty simple... If we don't have the player in house, and we aren't going to be able to sign him in FA to fill that hole, then we need to trade for him. End. Of. Story.

I have a very hard time with Melvin's veteran obsession given the financial realities and limitations of a fielding a MLB team in Milwaukee.

edited to further clarify some thoughts.

Saturday's Winter League action --

Dominican Box Score

Hector Gomez homered twice, driving in five, in his first game since November 22nd, impressive. Gomez (26 in March) played third base here, at 6'2", he's played SS for most of his career. He'll be in big league camp on a minor league deal, and flashes just enough to keep the Brewers interested after a brutal 2013.

***

Puerto Rico Box Score

It took 15 innings, but Martin Maldonado's club won 5-4. Maldonado left in the 9th for a pinch-runner. Prior to, he was 2-for-4, now with six singles and no walks in 30 AB's (.494 OPS). No baserunning activity against.

***

Dominican Box Score

Playing second base and again leading off, switch-hitting Elian Herrera was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. He was pinch-hit for in the 6th.

***

Venezuela Box Score

RHP Arcenio Leon's 18th relief appearance (3.57 ERA, 24 H in 22.2 IP, 8 BB, 20 K) was a good one, two scoreless --

Margarita Bottom of the 8th

Pitching Change: Arcenio Leon replaces Silvino Bracho.
Max Ramirez grounds out, shortstop Freddy Galvis to first baseman Ernesto Mejia.
Junior Sosa strikes out swinging.
Henry Blanco strikes out swinging, catcher Sandy Leon to first baseman Ernesto Mejia.

Margarita Bottom of the 9th

Tyler Graham grounds out, second baseman Henry Rodriguez to first baseman Ernesto Mejia.
Breyvic Valera singles on a fly ball to left fielder Jose Pirela.
Wilmer Flores grounds into a force out, shortstop Freddy Galvis to second baseman Henry Rodriguez. Breyvic Valera out at 2nd. Wilmer Flores to 1st.
Carlos Rivero flies out to left fielder Jose Pirela

Leon's team lost in ten innings.

Sunday's Winter League action --

Puerto Rico Box Score

Fun box score here.

As much as I'm a Tyler Thornburg fan (that "oh yeah, I'll show you" determination), and am definitely optimistic about Jimmy Nelson, I believe the Brewers will be glad there's a healthy Hiram Burgos around and in the mix for 2014. I realize that saying a 5'11" RHP has a chance for a positive Shaun Marcum season is almost as cliche' as a Jamie Moyer reference, but it is a blast to watch Burgos when he's on.

Four scoreless here, two hits, two walks, four strikeouts.

Caguas Bottom of the 1st

Juan Silva flies out to left fielder Daniel Ortiz.
Kristopher Negron called out on strikes.
Andy Gonzalez grounds out, shortstop Irving Falu to first baseman Martin Maldonado.

Caguas Bottom of the 2nd

Aaron Bates grounds out, first baseman Martin Maldonado to pitcher Hiram Burgos.
Johnny Monell walks.
Ramon Castro grounds into a double play, pitcher Hiram Burgos to shortstop Irving Falu to first baseman Martin Maldonado. Johnny Monell out at 2nd.

Caguas Bottom of the 3rd

Edgardo Baez walks.
Miguel Abreu singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Luis Figueroa. Edgardo Baez to 2nd.
Luis Mateo out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Hiram Burgos to second baseman Eddie Rosario. Edgardo Baez to 3rd. Miguel Abreu to 2nd.
Juan Silva called out on strikes.
Luis Montanez lines out to right fielder Jerry Sands.

Caguas Bottom of the 4th

Andy Gonzalez flies out to center fielder Michael Taylor.
Aaron Bates strikes out swinging.
Johnny Monell singles on a line drive to left fielder Daniel Ortiz.
With Ramon Castro batting, Johnny Monell steals (2) 2nd base, . Johnny Monell advances to 3rd, on a missed catch error by second baseman Eddie Rosario.
Ramon Castro strikes out swinging.

In that same game, but from the opposing bullpen, RHP Jose De La Torre, the 40-man roster waiver claim from the Red Sox, pitched a perfect inning for a hold --

Mayaguez Top of the 8th

Pitching Change: Jose De La Torre replaces Miguel Mejia.
Luis Figueroa grounds out, second baseman Miguel Abreu to first baseman Aaron Bates.
Eddie Rosario strikes out swinging.
Martin Maldonado flies out to center fielder Juan Silva.

Yes, that's Martin Maldonado, who had a nice game otherwise. Maldy had an RBI single in the 4th and lined a two-run HR to left in the 6th.

***

Dominican Box Score

RHP Alfredo Figaro took a tough-luck loss after allowing just one run in four innings of long relief --

Escogido Bottom of the 5th

Pitching Change: Alfredo Figaro replaces Hector Noesi.
Melky Mesa singles on a ground ball to center fielder Leonys Martin.
Wilkin Castillo pops out to second baseman Emilio Bonifacio.
Eury Perez grounds into a double play, shortstop Wilson Valdez to second baseman Emilio Bonifacio to first baseman Yamaico Navarro. Melky Mesa out at 2nd.

Escogido Bottom of the 6th

Erik Gonzalez triples (4) on a fly ball to center fielder Leonys Martin.
Jorge Polanco strikes out swinging.
Pedro Ciriaco out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Leonys Martin. Erik Gonzalez scores.
Gregory Polanco singles on a line drive to right fielder Engel Beltre.
C. J. Cron grounds out softly, pitcher Alfredo Figaro to first baseman Yamaico Navarro.

Escogido Bottom of the 7th

Fernando Martinez flies out to center fielder Leonys Martin.
Melky Mesa strikes out swinging.
Wilkin Castillo pops out to shortstop Wilson Valdez.

Escogido Bottom of the 8th

Eury Perez called out on strikes.
Erik Gonzalez grounds out, second baseman Emilio Bonifacio to first baseman Yamaico Navarro.
Jorge Polanco grounds out, shortstop Wilson Valdez to first baseman Yamaico Navarro

That's only two walks and eleven K's in 12 innings thus far for Figaro (2.25 ERA), nicely avoiding his bugaboo (no HR's allowed).

***

On a side note, free agent RHP Mark Rogers' 2nd Venezuelan outing was similar to his 1st -- 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 HBP, 1 WP, 3 K, again seeing inherited runners score (two) after his exit (box score / game log).

***

Also, RH reliever Eric Marzec flew into Sydney today, and is playing baseball in Australia for the next couple of months, as per his Twitter link.

Thank goodness the Brewers didn't get Olt, who hit .168/.276/.275 in 131 AB's at AAA after being traded to the Cubs. He's making Andy Marte look like less of a bust and that's hard to do. Fortunately for Cubs, they drafted Kris Bryant.

Monday's Winter League action --

Dominican Box Score

Hector Gomez singled twice in four AB's, playing third base. Now at .275 (22-for-80), but with only one walk.

***

Dominican Box Score

Elian Herrera (second base here) seems to be happy as a Brewer, 3-for-5 with three RBI, a HR shy of the cycle, now .340 (18-for-53, also with just one walk).

Winter league baseball is just so hacktastic.

Tuesday's Winter League activity:

Dominican Box Score

So both Hector Gomez and Jason Rogers saw action for the Toros squad here, but it was Gomez who played third base while Rogers was at designated hitter. Goes to show how little say affiliated clubs have in the Dominican lineups, even with Mike Guerrero in the opposing dugout. Rogers, batting cleanup, had a sacrifice bunt (really?), also singled and scored a run in three official at-bats (one K). Gomez continued his hot stretch, 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored (one K). Ironically, Gomez committed an error at third base while Rogers, who the Brewers wanted to see here at the hot corner, watched from the bench.

***

Dominican Box Score

Elian Herrera stayed hot, 2-for-4 with a run scored, leading off, playing second base.

***

Puerto Rico Box Score

2013 Brevard County SS Yadiel Rivera made his winter league debut, entering the game at third base (it's third base day here), and later contributing an RBI single in his lone at-bat.

***

Puerto Rico Box Score

Catcher Martin Maldonado was 0-for-3 (his club managed only one hit), with one stolen base against.

Same game, RHP Jose De La Torre earned a hold with a scoreless inning, stranding an inherited runner --

Mayaguez Bottom of the 8th

Kennys Vargas walks.
Pitching Change: Jose De La Torre replaces John Brownell.
Luis Figueroa grounds into a force out, third baseman Andy Gonzalez to second baseman Rey Navarro. Kennys Vargas out at 2nd. Luis Figueroa to 1st.
With Martin Maldonado batting, wild pitch by Jose De La Torre, Luis Figueroa to 2nd.
Martin Maldonado grounds out, shortstop Luis Mateo to first baseman Jaime Ortiz. Luis Figueroa to 3rd.
Daniel Ortiz flies out to left fielder Miguel Abreu.

Newcomer Irving Falu is a teammate of Hiram Burgos and Martin Maldonado for Mayaguez in the Puerto Rico League. He has a line of .200/.313/.255 in 55 winter AB's.

Quite the collection of potential switch-hitting infielders and utilitymen at the AAA level -- Falu, Eugenio Velez, Hainley Statia, and Elian Herrera.

The other newcomer, catcher Matt Pagnozzi, is not on a current winter ball roster, but he did have an entertaining moment in Houston last September.

Wednesday's Winter League action --

Dominican Box Score

Leadoff UT Elian Herrera (second base here) went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Eight-game hit streak, and the first time in six games he did not have multiple base hits, just a really strong 61 AB's to this point (beyond just the one base on balls).

***

Dominican Box Score

Minor League Player of the Year Jason Rogers, in the Dominican after Arizona Fall League success, played his third winter game and second as the designated hitter. Rogers, batting cleanup, singled in four at-bats, fanning twice.

Right behind Rogers in the lineup was Hector Gomez, again playing third base. He, too, singled in four trips, and also stole his first winter base in three tries.

***

Puerto Rico Box Score

Newly signed Irving Falu, batting 2nd and playing shortstop, celebrated his new organization with a home run and a walk (one K). He also stole his 5th base (seven attempts) in 17 PWL games this winter thus far. Capping a busy day, he also committed his 5th winter error.

Falu's teammate, catcher Martin Maldonado, was 0-for-3 to drop back to .200 after 40 AB's (still no walks), but did throw out yet another baserunner. Darn, he's so solid in that regard. For his sake, good thing he is...

***

Puerto Rico Box Score

28-year-old 40-man roster reliever Jose De La Torre picked up another hold (his 4th) in style --

Ponce Bottom of the 8th

Pitching Change: Jose De La Torre replaces Andres Santiago.
Geraldo Valentin strikes out swinging.
Rubi Silva strikes out swinging, catcher Roberto Pena to first baseman Aaron Bates.
Benji Gonzalez called out on strikes.

***

Here's the Australia newspaper article news blurb on RHP Eric Marzec's arrival --

The Melbourne Aces will add Milwaukee Brewers AA reliever Eric Marzec this week.

"He's a legit fireballer that adds tremendous depth to our bullpen, he'll be able to close out games."

Marzec appeared in 46 games during the northern summer for a 6-0 record and 1.99 earned run average.

He struck out 56 hitters while allowing just 20 walks in 60 innings.

Thursday's Winter League action --

Dominican Box Score

Elian Herrera, with a right field start (scroll down at the link to review his mad positional flexibility, which included seven games at the big league level in right field for the Dodgers in 2012, now carries a nine-game hit streak (six of the last seven with multiple base knocks). He was 2-for-3 here with two RBI, adding a sacrifice bunt (one K). Herrera was caught stealing and is now 0-for-3 on the basepaths this winter, odd considering he was 16-for-19 at AAA in 2013.

In the other dugout, Jason Rogers (left field) and Hector Gomez (shortstop) started in the 4 and 5 spots in the lineup. Rogers was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI (one K), while Gomez singled in four at-bats and committed his 7th error in 28 winter games.

***

Venezuela Box Score

RHP Arcenio Leon's 19th relief appearance was scoreless but eventful - he stranded two inherited runners and then his bullpen mate did him a similar favor -- some familiar big league names here, and yes, that was the Alex Gonzalez that Leon struck out upon enetering...

Caracas Top of the 6th

Carlos Perez grounds out softly, shortstop Freddy Galvis to first baseman Ernesto Mejia.
Gerardo Parra doubles (5) on a fly ball to right fielder J. C. Linares.
Jesus Guzman called out on strikes.
Jesus Aguilar singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jose Pirela. Gerardo Parra scores.
J. D. Martinez singles on a ground ball to center fielder Ender Inciarte. Jesus Aguilar to 2nd.
Pitching Change: Arcenio Leon replaces Alex Torres.
Alex Gonzalez strikes out swinging.

Caracas Top of the 7th

Bobby Abreu grounds out, second baseman Henry Rodriguez to first baseman Ernesto Mejia.
Gregorio Petit singles on a line drive to center fielder Ender Inciarte.
Hernan Perez singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jose Pirela. Gregorio Petit to 2nd.
Carlos Perez grounds into a force out, shortstop Freddy Galvis to second baseman Henry Rodriguez. Gregorio Petit to 3rd. Hernan Perez out at 2nd. Carlos Perez to 1st.
Pitching Change: Miguel Sulbaran replaces Arcenio Leon.
Gerardo Parra flies out to left fielder Jose Pirela

***

Puerto Rico Box Score

Teammates Irving Falu (leading off at shortstop) and Martin Maldonado (8th, defensively behind the plate, later at first base) took part in an extra-inning win. Friday's Winter League action --

Back in July, we linked to this entertaining Q&A with RHP Eric Marzec, and we recently let you know he was Australia-bound.

Via the Australian Baseball Digest, a blog post on Marzec --

Down under, he's a "hotshot" (the writer's choice of words, not his). Marzec hints at a desire to start games in Australia, and if we read into that, potentially stateside. Take a peek.

Eric's first Aussie appearance went very well, thank you -- his Melbourne club won, 7-0.

Australia Box Score

Adelaide Top of the 7th

Pitching Change: Eric Marzec replaces Joe Burns.
James Baldwin strikes out swinging.
John Cannon flies out to right fielder Tyler Massey.
Chris Jacobs grounds out, shortstop Brad Harman to first baseman Jared Schlehuber.

Saturday's Winter League action --

Puerto Rico Box Score

28-year-old 40-man roster RHP Jose De La Torre picked up the win for his team with a perfect top of the 10th when former Brewer farmhand LHP Bobby Bramhall committed a two-base throwing error in the bottom of the frame --

Carolina Top of the 10th

Pitching Change: Jose De La Torre replaces Tyler Sturdevant.
Carlos Moncrief strikes out swinging.
Luis Matos flies out to center fielder Jorge Padilla.
Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Carlos Corporan replaces Robinson Cancel.
Carlos Corporan flies out to center fielder Jorge Padilla

Venezuela Box Score

Speaking of 28-year-old 40-man roster RHP's, how far is Mike Fiers' star falling? Pitching for the first time since his last start two weeks ago, Fiers pitched two innings plus, not retiring any of the men he faced in the 3rd. He allowed four base hits, two walks, a HBP, wild pitch, and was charged with six runs (three earned). He's allowed three home runs in 6.1 innings over four appearances, although he has fanned ten. If the Brewers had to free up a roster spot, Fiers might be the most at-risk, unfathomable a year and a half ago in the midst of his amazing debut run. To be fair here, his club's defense was horrid in his final inning, including allowing his two baserunners to score after his departure.

Lara Bottom of the 1st

Joe Thurston strikes out swinging, catcher Carlos Perez to first baseman Jesus Aguilar.
Guilder Rodriguez walks.
Luis Valbuena homers (3) on a fly ball to center field. Guilder Rodriguez scores.
Paulo Orlando hit by pitch.
With Mike Moustakas batting, Paulo Orlando steals (3) 2nd base.
Mike Moustakas strikes out swinging.
Robert Perez strikes out swinging, catcher Carlos Perez to first baseman Jesus Aguilar.

Lara Bottom of the 2nd

Andrew Lambo singles on a soft fly ball to right fielder Gerardo Parra. Andrew Lambo out at 2nd, right fielder Gerardo Parra to shortstop Gregorio Petit.
Jairo Perez flies out to left fielder Aharon Eggleston.
Anderson De La Rosa called out on strikes.

Lara Bottom of the 3rd

Joe Thurston singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Mike Fiers.
Guilder Rodriguez reaches on a fielding error by second baseman Hernan Perez. Joe Thurston to 2nd.
With Luis Valbuena batting, wild pitch by Mike Fiers, Joe Thurston to 3rd. Guilder Rodriguez to 2nd.
With Luis Valbuena batting, passed ball by Carlos Perez, Joe Thurston scores. Guilder Rodriguez to 3rd.
Luis Valbuena walks.
Paulo Orlando doubles (5) on a fly ball to left fielder Aharon Eggleston. Guilder Rodriguez scores. Luis Valbuena to 3rd.
Pitching Change: Diegomar Markwell replaces Mike Fiers.
Mike Moustakas flies out to left fielder Aharon Eggleston.
Diegomar Markwell intentionally walks Robert Perez.
Andrew Lambo grounds into a force out, first baseman Jesus Aguilar to shortstop Gregorio Petit. Luis Valbuena scores. Paulo Orlando scores. Robert Perez out at 2nd. Andrew Lambo advances to 2nd, on a throwing error by shortstop Gregorio Petit.
Jairo Perez singles on a ground ball to left fielder Aharon Eggleston. Andrew Lambo scores.
Anderson De La Rosa grounds into a force out, fielded by second baseman Hernan Perez. Jairo Perez out at 2nd.

Australia Box Score

RHP Eric Marzec, appearing for the 2nd time in three games, pitched the final two innings (one run allowed, struck out the side in his first inning) in his team's 4-1 win --

After no Sunday action, it was another quiet night in the Caribbean Monday, with just one box score --

Puerto Rico

Irving Falu, scooped up quickly by the Brewers after his Royals' release, has had a tough winter, 0-for-5 playing third base here, now with a .591 OPS in 74 AB's.

Teammate Martin Maldonado was on base three times, via single, walk, and yet another HBP, at least his 5th of the winter season. One stolen base against Maldy behind the plate.

Tuesday's Winter League action --

Dominican Box Score

Juan Francisco returned to action for the first time in two full weeks after suffering some sort of leg strain back on Nobember 26th. As the designated hitter, singled and scored a run in four at-bats (one K). Francisco had posted a .796 OPS entering this, his 32nd game of the winter season.

New 40-man roster waiver claim Elian Herrera continues to have a strong winter, on base three more times in this game (two singles and a walk), while leading off and playing left field. Strong everywhere except the basepaths, however, as he's now 0-for-4 in stolen base attempts. As we mentioned earlier in this thread, he was 16-for-19 at AAA in 2013.

RHP Alfredo Figaro took the loss in relief, the one run he was charged with scored after he left the game with two men on --

Estrellas Top of the 7th

Pitching Change: Alfredo Figaro replaces Greg Aquino.
Alberto Rosario strikes out swinging.
Elian Herrera grounds out, shortstop Wilson Valdez to first baseman Jim Murphy.
Aneury Tavarez strikes out swinging.

Estrellas Top of the 8th

Audy Ciriaco singles on a ground ball to center fielder Leonys Martin.
Josh Whitesell singles on a line drive to center fielder Leonys Martin. Audy Ciriaco to 2nd.
Alex Valdez out on a sacrifice bunt, first baseman Jim Murphy to second baseman Emilio Bonifacio. Audy Ciriaco to 3rd. Josh Whitesell to 2nd.
Pitching Change: Luis Vasquez replaces Alfredo Figaro.
Alfredo Marte singles on a ground ball to right fielder Alex Hassan. Audy Ciriaco scores. Josh Whitesell to 3rd.
Gustavo Nunez reaches on a fielder's choice out, second baseman Emilio Bonifacio to catcher Bryan Holaday. Josh Whitesell out at home. Alfredo Marte to 2nd.
Ed Rogers strikes out swinging.

***

Dominican Box Score

SS Hector Gomez was 0-for-3 (now .276, one walk in 98 AB's) before exiting for a pinch-hitter in the 8th inning. He also committed his 8th error in 30 games this winter.

***

Neither her nor there -- former Brewer RHP Kameron Loe, currently a free agent, has made three starts in the Dominican -- 16 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 K's. That'll get him noticed...

In the same game, Burgos' teammates took part -- Irving Falu's offensive struggles continued (0-for-5), and Martin Maldonado contributed nicely, 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly, two RBI, one run scored.

***

Dominican Box Score

Juan Francisco, still nursing his way back by slotting at designated hitter, was 2-for-4 (two K's). Now sporting a .797 OPS after 124 AB's, but still fanning just under 30% of the time, yikes.

***

Dominican Box Score

There was an unexpected departure in the 4th inning, but Elian Herrera continued to roll, doubling and scoring a run in two at-bats, no apparent reason for the exit.

***

Dominican Box Score

Hector Gomez, again at third base, singled twice in four AB's, now at .284 in 102 AB's, but still just the one walk.
